Civilian Content plc's core business is the financing, production and international exploitation of UK film and TV rights. The acquisition of The Film Consortium in April 2000 enabled the company to create a significant grouping of independent film and television producers in the UK that have been responsible for some of the most commercially and critically successful shows in the UK film and TV business over the past 15 years. The acquisition of The Sales Co, a highly regarded film sales agency, in March 2001 brought new skills and expertise to the group. More significantly, it allowed the company to marry its film finance and production skills with a strong international sales business.

Civilian Content is committed to creating an integrated film and television business that generates consistent streams of revenue from film finance and sales activities. The Film Consortium, one of its key subsidiaries acts as a unique film financing vehicle, having been awarded a film production franchise by the Arts Council in October 1997, giving it direct access to £33.5 million of Lottery funding over the period of the franchise.

For the six months to 30 June 2001, Civilian Content reported a loss before tax of £741,000, on turnover of £2.34 million, in line with expectations and reflecting its investment in a business infrastructure that supports its activities.
